Back in the 80's, these beer steins were the vogue. I collected quite a few, big names, including Rogge, Rudel, His tail gunners, Hans Phillip (missed out on his KC document a few years back) and Dieter Von Eichel (who was a VW dealer in Modesto ). I went to the German Army Museum back in the early 90's and inquired of the history section there about these steins. They advised me they were made for American collectors. So, am passing them on at a loss to you if you wish to display or drink from them at a get together at some time. Nicely made, and full of markings, some have information about the person. This buckle is the second pattern Luftschutz buckle, (circa May 1937-January 1939), die stamped, aluminum construction, box belt buckle with a matte silver/gray finish. The buckle features a smooth, outer field with a high relief, embossed Luftschutz emblem to the center. The Luftschutz emblem consists of stylized, outstretched wings with a central oak-leaf cluster with a canted swastika to the bottom and a scripted banner, "LUFTSCHUTZ," to the top. The reverse of the buckle is a mirror image of the obverse. The reverse has the brazed buckle catch, the prong bar and the prongs all intact. There are no maker marks to be found. It is constructed of silvered fine zinc, on a loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, the obverse bearing a central mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of "FUR VERDIENSTE IM LUFTSCHUTZ" ("FOR MERIT IN AIR DEFENCE"). The reverse bearing a raised date of "1938" and is the ring is marked, but I cannot make out the maker mark. The medal measures 38.58 mm (w) by 43.13 mm (h) and weighing 25.5 grams. I acquired this lot together. First, the 57' cross is an early one. It is textbook in construction with maker marks on the suspension ring of 65 800 for Klein & Quenzer A.G. of Idar-Oberstein. The cross itself is marked 800 just under the loop on the reverse. Now, the photos. The group photo contains Ray Toliver, Wolfgang Falck and Trevor Constable. Ray Toliver and Trevor Constable were authors of Fighter Aces of the Luftwaffe among many other Luftwaffe books. The photo is an original Kodak dated December 1st, 1984 from Encino California and is also stamped with Toliver's last name in the bottom corner - all on the reverse. The photograph of Falck is a post war copy which he has autographed - actual autograph not a copy. The reverse of that photo simply says Wolfgang. I have to imagine the possibility that this knights cross belonged to Wolfgang Falck and was gifted to Toliver at some point in their friendship. This is a set of Luftwaffe Flight or Paratrooper Feldwebelanwarter/Sergeant Candidate Shoulder Boards with Buttons (Luftwaffe Paar Schulterklappen fur Mannschaften (Feldwebelanwarter) bei der fliegenden Truppe oder Fallschirmjager). This a set of matching of Luftwaffe EM's shoulder boards for a sergeant candidates in the flying troops or paratroopers. They are constructed of Luftwaffe gray wool; edged with lemon-yellow Waffenfarbe piping and are the slip-on type. These would have been privately purchased. They measure 48 mm (w) by 120 mm (h), and are in unissued, almost mint condition. However, there is some adhesive residue on the underside from being glued in an album. These are slip-on style boards, constructed of Luftwaffe gray wool fabric for the rank of Enlisted Men. They are edged by black celleon waffenfarbe (representing construction units) and measure 1.75" (w) by 4.50" (l). These boards has been worn and do have some moth damage, especially to the reverse tongues. These are very rare to find and overall, they are in good condition. If they ARE NOT guaranteed it will be stated in the description. This is the Luftwaffe EM Aluminum Buckle - 14(4).66 1938 Pattern (Luftwaffe Gurtelschnalle fur Mannschaften). This buckle is constructed of aluminum, the obverse bearing a raised Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, situated within an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined by four clips that are all in place. The reverse with two attachment prongs emanating from a functional roller and measures 62 mm (w) by 48 mm (h). Mr. Angolia states that it was normal for these buckles to remain unmarked. This is a very early buckle that is in extremely fine condition and very clean. This buckle is discussed in "Belt, Buckles, & Brocades of the Third Reich - Revised Edition" by LTC J.R.
