This unit was named for Luftwaffe Commander Walther Wever, a prewar strategist. The "Geschwader General Wever" cuff title was authorized for this unit on 4 June 1936. This cuff title is the EM/NCO's pattern, woven navy blue wool cuff title with machine embroidered Gothic script, "Geschwader General Wever," in silvery/grey cotton threads. The cuff title is approximately 1.5" (40 mm) wide and 18.5" (47 cm) long. The cuff title has the top and bottom edges machine stitched down and has the typical opened back revealing the reverse of the embroidered script. This is in absolutely mint condition and very rare. Luftwaffe original high quality silver box. A stunning and detailed silver box with a large 3.25" early "droop tail" eagle in great detail on the lid. It has beautiful "rope border" edging on the lid with a nice lift tab. The bottom is high quality as well with it's four legs. I acquired this lot together. First, the 57' cross is an early one. It is textbook in construction with maker marks on the suspension ring of 65 800 for Klein & Quenzer A.G. of Idar-Oberstein. The cross itself is marked 800 just under the loop on the reverse. Now, the photos. The group photo contains Ray Toliver, Wolfgang Falck and Trevor Constable. Ray Toliver and Trevor Constable were authors of Fighter Aces of the Luftwaffe among many other Luftwaffe books. The photo is an original Kodak dated December 1st, 1984 from Encino California and is also stamped with Toliver's last name in the bottom corner - all on the reverse. The photograph of Falck is a post war copy which he has autographed - actual autograph not a copy. The reverse of that photo simply says Wolfgang. I have to imagine the possibility that this knights cross belonged to Wolfgang Falck and was gifted to Toliver at some point in their friendship. The reverse with two attachment prongs emanating from a functional roller and measures 62 mm (w) by 48 mm (h). Mr. Angolia states that it was normal for these buckles to remain unmarked. This cap badge is constructed of black wool, the obverse bearing a machine-embroidered silver-gray Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The reverse is unmarked and is small measuring 3" (76 mm) wide by 1.8" (46 mm) high. It is in unissued and mint condition.
