Perhaps the most desired award of the German Third Reich! The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. Awarded for extreme battlefield bravery or outstanding military leadership. As with all known originals, the cross is die struck with a three-piece constructed frame and an Iron/magnetic core. The single piece core is constructed out of an iron magnetic metal base. The two piece frame is constructed out of an "800" silver content. The top-reverse border is maker marked "2" ( known as the "Lazy 2" version) for maker C.E. Juncker along with "800" (silver content). The black matte paint is in wonderful condition 98%+ and the silver border has beautifully patinaed with time! The cross measures approximately 1 7/8 inches wide and tall (without the ring). Suspension loop correctly marked "800". Complete with worn neck ribbon measuring approx 25".
A textbook example and truly an excellent piece that every collector aspires to have! Now is your chance.

I acquired this lot together. First, the 57' cross is an early one. It is textbook in construction with maker marks on the suspension ring of 65 800 for Klein & Quenzer A.G. of Idar-Oberstein. The cross itself is marked 800 just under the loop on the reverse. Now, the photos. The group photo contains Ray Toliver, Wolfgang Falck and Trevor Constable. Ray Toliver and Trevor Constable were authors of Fighter Aces of the Luftwaffe among many other Luftwaffe books. The photo is an original Kodak dated December 1st, 1984 from Encino California and is also stamped with Toliver's last name in the bottom corner - all on the reverse. The photograph of Falck is a post war copy which he has autographed - actual autograph not a copy. The reverse of that photo simply says Wolfgang. I have to imagine the possibility that this knights cross belonged to Wolfgang Falck and was gifted to Toliver at some point in their friendship. I'm not sure why the group photo would have been saved with this medal othe

Italian East Africa (Italian: Africa Orientale Italiana, A.O.I.) was a short-lived colonial possession of Fascist Italy from 1936 to 1941 in the Horn of Africa. It was established following the Second Italo-Ethiopian War, which led to the military occupation of the Ethiopian Empire (Abyssinia). It encompassed Italian Somaliland, Italian Eritrea and the acquired Ethiopian territories, all governed by a single administrative unit, the Governo Generale dell Africa Orientale Italiana. Its establishment contributed to the outbreak of the Second World War by exposing the weaknesses of the League of Nations.

War Merit Cross with Swords 1st Class marked L15 (Friedrich Orth, Wien).
(Kriegsverdienstkreuz 1. Klasse mit Schwertern).
Maltese cross design with crossed swords (For combatants) between the arms of the cross, Swastika emblem to the centre. Great condition, nice firm makers marked pin. I believe it's of tombac construction (brass, copper, zinc) and was originally silver washed that has faded over the years.
The pinback maker marked with LDO code `L15` is a variation now credited to Friedrich Orth, Vienna, according to `The War Merit Cross: 1st Class and Higher Grades` by Dietrich Maerz and George Stimson, 2017, pages 145-154, measuring 48.25 mm (w) x 48.14 mm (h), weighing 20.2 grams, in extremely fine condition.
The decoration was awarded to military personnel for bravery not necessarily in the face of the enemy or for exceptional service in battle.
GBP 135.00 plus postage.
