its own paramilitary organization, the black uniformed Weerbaarheidsafdeling (WA),
similar to the Sturmabteilung of the NSDAP. The WA or Storm Troopers was formed
in 1932, but disbanded in 1935 under a government decree prohibiting all Para military,
political militias. The WA was reactivated after the start of the occupation in 1940.
In November 1942, the tenth anniversary of its formation, the founder, Anton Mussert,
instituted a 'Strjdersteken der WA' literally 'Fighters Badge', but 'Old Fighters' or 'Veterans'
Medal is closer to the sense of the original. Anyone who had served in the WA or in the militias
of the NSNAP or 'Dinaso', now absorbed into the WA, was eligible, as were members of the

DESCRIPTION: Stamped,Hollow backed, metal badge,
features a central canted swastika flanked by diagonally
angled sheaves of wheat with a superimposed banner with

Against the white enamel backdrop of the oval is a black, stylized eagle, articulated in silver, with "D.D.A.C.," also in silver, across its breast, and in whose talons is clutched the translucent red, circular surround to a black, mobile swastika. Both the swastika and its surround are also edged in silver. All enclosed by a dual oval, the innermost translucent red, the other black, each edged in silver. Johannes "Macky" Steinhoff (15 September 1913 - 21 February 1994) was a Luftwaffe fighter ace during World War II, German general, and NATO official. He was one of very few Luftwaffe pilots who survived to fly operationally through the whole of the war period 1939-45 until he was severely burned during a failed take-off. Steinhoff was also one of the highest-scoring pilots with 176 victories, and one of the first to fly the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter in combat as a member of the Jagdverband 44 squadron led by Adolf Galland. History:
The Ordensburgen (order castles) were elite schools for HJ Youth members who were destined to become part of the NSDAP elite. They were even more prestigious than the NPEA schools. There were four Ordensburgen: Krossinsee, Sonthofen, Vogelsang, and Marienburg. Approximately 1000 students and 500 staff were stationed at each school. Students were trained for a duration of one year.
There were four cuff titles of which each bore one of the names of the four Ordensburgen, while a fifth cuff title features the word "Ordensburgen" itself. This latter cuff title was probably worn by general staff members involved in the overall Ordensburgen educational system, but not necessarily stationed at one of the castles themselves.

Horizontal ribbing to the sword grip and cut-outs to the interior of the circular wreath and swastika arms.
The reverse is a mirror image of obverse. The raised soldered catch, semi-rounded vertical pin and
soldered catch all intact to reverse. The reverse is well marked with embossed, third pattern inscription,
(circa 1939-44), "Eigentum der Obersten S.A. Fuhrung", (Property of the SA Supreme Command).
The reverse also has embossed manufacturers name and location, "Fechler, Bernsbach/SA.".
